One of the famous proverbs of India says, “Kos kos par badle paani, chaar kos par bani” which means in India, water changes every 2.5 kilometers whereas the language changes every 10 kilometers. India is blessed with more than 780 languages and it is very sad to know that over 220 were lost in last 50 years as speakers of those languages died and their children failed to learn the same. Hindi and English are the official languages throughout the country. Although, the diversity in spoken language is seen all across India, but most widely spoken languages include hindi, Bengali, telugu, Marathi, tamil, urdu, gujarati, kannad, malyalam, udia, Punjabi, assamese.
